Star Trek: Picard - Why is Picard Still Single?

In space, no one can hear you cry.

We've seen tears from Jean Luc before.  But, he's also a man of strength, courage and intellect.  He's quick with a timely quip, steadfast under pressure and the man can dance!

So why not a mate?

Unfortunately, the Star Trek franchise has a thing for keeping their Captains single. The reasoning seems to be that the job is just too demanding.  The risks are too high and like any Captain, they are gone for too long.

But, look at that smile.

Picard has been living in quiet seclusion for the last 14 years.  Self-enforced seclusion I gather.  The man still lives with a hole in his heart from the loss of Data.  His shipmate and tabula-rasa.  Hey, dogs are great companions.  I'm a dog man myself (Two Goldens.) We all love the new Number One.  But, surely a woman can patch the hole in that heart.

What should her characteristics be?

Well, she'd have to be formidable herself.  Possess an equal and imposing intellect.  A career woman would be ideal.  Someone accustomed to long absences and used to dealing with the demands of her own profession.  Adventuresome would help.  Plus, a dash of romance mixed with a little playfulness.

Where in the wide, wide Alpha quadrant where we find a woman like that?

I wonder what Vash is up to these days?  She would fit seamlessly into, "Star Trek: Picard".  Since the Romulans are in the business of selling off used Borg implants of late, I can see Vash in the black market business of re-selling them to the highest bidder.

I have a theory where Jean Luc's parietal lobe problems become so intense that he will need a Borg implant to stave off the effects of their original removal.  Finding them will become a problem once the Romulan/Borg cube becomes re-activated.  (Another prediction.)  Fortunately, Vash will have just what Picard needs and she'll ride to the rescue just as the credits begin to roll as the new season closes.

Or, have her arrive just in time as the next season begins.  Since we're going to re-introduce Whoopi Goldberg next season, have Guinan find Vash in a bar and alert her to the problem.  That would be great fun.  They could bicker and romance with each other just like the old days.

I bet that would get the old Number One to raise an eyebrow.

Of course, the point of this exercise is to find out why Jean Luc Picard is still single.

Could it be he's just not good at this whole partnership thing?

After all, look what he did to poor Raffi.   Abandoned to her own seclusion in the desert.  Not because they failed together in their efforts to rescue the Romulans.  But, because Picard failed her.  It's pretty obvious Raffi cared a great deal for Picard.  Judging by the measure of her pain, I'd say she would have followed him into Hell.

And how does he seek to seduce her into one last mission together?  Not with an outright apology but with a bottle of Chateau Picard and tales of Romulan assassins.

Pro tip, start with the apology first Jean Luc.  First, last and always

Perhaps Jean Luc just needs someone to order him to relax and open up.  Seriously, take charge and show him what's good for him.  Maybe all Picard needs is for someone to spell it out for him.

I've heard tell that some men need to be told what to do.  Otherwise, they will never see it for themselves.

Has anyone else heard that?

So, how do you mend a broken heart?

Listen to your doctor?  No, not good ol' Dr Benayoun.  Someone with a little experience with Picard.  Maybe, someone with a little experience with Borg implants.  This time giving them back for his own good.  The rest will follow.  (Phew, imagine Beverly Crusher and Vash aboard the same ship.)  Engage!

So, why is Picard still single?  Unwritten Star Fleet rules?  He grieves for what he has lost?  Or, perhaps, he grieves for what he's never had and someone needs to tell him what he is missing.
