The Mandalorian: The Greater "Sin"

From here on there be spoilers for The Mandalorian: The Sin

The Mandalorian wrapped up it's third entry, "The Sin" with what I thought was an intriguing question.

What exactly was "the sin" in question?

There are several answers to this question and one of them is the most obvious.  But let's look at several alternatives to this question and how they can be applied to the episode title.

The First Sin - Handing Over The Child

This one was a doozey, how on Earth (Tatooine?) do you hand over such an adorable creature such as this?

Look at those eyes!

Not to mention the shared trauma they both endured.  The Madalorian went through quite a bit of effort to capture his quarry.  At least 50 guards on Avarla - 7 and several more bounty hunters as Mando and the Child work their way back to his ship.

This was no minor feat.  And it elicited a deep psychological scar within the Mandalorian.  We witnessed what we come to learn was the harrowing detail of "The Purge".  It seems the Empire visited the Madalorian home world and set out to cleanse that world of it's people.

The Mandalorian was a child at that time and we witness the events that made him an orphan.

The Mandalorian basically owes the Child his life too.  Mando was about to become Mudhorn stew when Baby Yoda elevated the beast onto a virtual treadmill.  You'd think that would earn him a little love.

So we have to ask ourselves, how can the Mandalorian hand over the Child when they share a similar origin story as being orphaned amidst such great strife?  Not to mention the trials of combat.  You must have a pretty cold heart to do such a thing.

A sin indeed.

The Second Sin - Collaborating with the Empire

The Mandalorian returns to his coven with a valuable bounty consisting of several bricks of Beskar.  But, despite it's great value, it bears the stamp of the Imperial Empire.

It's easy to deduce the Empire came across a large quantity of Beskar after it's purge of the Mandalorian home world.   So, not only does it bear the stamp of the Empire but its  tainted with the blood of many Mandalorians.  A fact that is pointed out by that "Hulking Soldier Mandalorian" as Mando sits with the armorer.

A sin so great that Mando is compelled to defend his honor and the Hulking Soldier is driven to avenge his fallen people.

The Third Sin - Experimenting On a Child

I think we can all agree experimenting on any species is a sin.  But, experimenting a child of any species is an utter horror.

As seen above, Baby Yoda is completely defenseless.  As we leaned by virtue of Mando's x-ray rifle with it's enhanced listening capacity, The Client wants Dr. Pershing to extract something from the Child.  Whether it's something physical or something electronically discovered.   There is no greater sin than doing this to a child.  It is simply Nazi in nature.

The Fourth Sin - Breaking the Code

Here is the Captain Obvious entry.

There is no greater sin for a bounty hunter than to break "The Code."

A code that is so simple (and ironic) that is is earned by trust.  A trust that says you never go back on your word to fulfill a contract or to see it's end.  And you never return to retake your bounty after you accept your payment.  (BTW, the irony of earning trust as a bounty hunter is often earned through murder itself. That kind of, gulp, trust.)

There is no greater violation as a bounty hunter as you will never get another contract as you will be deemed as unreliable.

You are forever blackballed.

The Fifth Sin - Exposing The Coven

As we learned from the hulking soldier Mandalorian, only one Mandalorian is allowed out at a time.  To see one stoop to helping the remnants of the Empire is bad enough.  To expose the secret of their population is even worse.  Now they must find a new sanctuary in order to rescue their brother and risk themselves to exposure.  Fortunately, for the Mandalorian.

"It is the way"

The Mandalorian has sinned by forcing the other Madalorians to expose themselves.  However, their honor exceeds his sin and they come to his rescue.

Are there any other "sins" I might have missed?  Please sound off in the comments below if you can think of any!
