Up In The Air With Fringe

No George Clooney isn't walking through that door to make a guest appearance on Fringe.  But there were some interesting comments made by Joel Wyman in a recent  interview with TV Line.

Here the gist of it as follows...

"We ourselves get frustrated with other shows that only ask questions and leave things up in the air and don't really answer them, so we really take pride in saying, ‘Look our drama is strong enough that we can actually answer the questions.' Let's just say that we're going to try and get you satisfying conclusions for all those things that are up in the air. You'll learn a lot more about the Observers this year. And yes, you probably will understand a lot about that guy in the zeppelin."

OK, let's count how many times Wyamn said, "Up in the air".  It's two!  Yes, twice in the same paragraph.  And he managed to say it in context with the man in the Zeppelin, Mr.X and the Observers.

I'm calling major Easter Egg here.  Yes it could be an innocent remark by Wyamn and I've been wrong more than once ( a lot lately!).  But I think we just found out where Olivia is going to be shot and killed.  Mr. X has re-entered the conversation of late and as we have learned from the Observer September, Olivia has to die no matter what future he's peeked at.

So get your butter and toast ready it seems to me Olivia will be traveling to the other side once again, hitching a ride on a Zeppelin and meeting her doom!

  1. This blog post made me smile so widely! Who Mr. X is, even more so than who/what the Observers are, is what I'm most curious about. I'm really excited the writers have every intention of getting to the bottom of this.

Something tells me, and by "something" I mean my gut feelings, Olivia won't actually die. Perhaps this is wishful thinking on my part, but I know enough about this show to know a) there are people willing to sacrifice themselves for her, and b) Olivia is a survivor. As someone who's been through more than most could imagine, I recognize others who can say the same. She may only be a fictional character, but the writers wrote Olivia Dunham brilliantly enough to make these sorts of things apparent to the viewer.

I'm looking forward to seeing Mr. X, finding out who shot September, finding out more about March, and finding out whether all or any of this ties back to the set of characters we know as Fringe Division.

  2. Excellent, part of my job is to make people smile! I share your gut feeling, something is in the works. That's why I mentioned Dr. Who earlier. How about this, remember when the bullets were passing through DRJ in the original timeline? It was because he was crossing over so much. I wonder if the cortxiphan and the crossing over angle will work for Olivia? Hmmm?

BTW, "March" is the month of my birthday so I'm sure the people at Fringe are saluting me. Right?

    1. The latest Observer being named March is DEFINITELY for you, Dave. I'm certain of it!

Excellent point about DRJ and the bullets! I had completely forgotten about that.

Lostweatherguy: You're absolutely right about that episode, but I just feel like that's too expected of an outcome for this show. The writers love to take us on the roads less taken.
You're also spot on about comparing Emily's end to what is possible for Olivia. But,again, I just think that's too easy. But, perhaps that's me having wishful thinking again :)

All I know is, I can't wait to see where this road leads!

    2. Obviously it is a salute to me! (All those midnight phone calls finally paid off.) I wonder how long it will take to resolve this mystery. Either way a fun ride!

  3. The whole Forced Perspective episode seemed to be foreshadowing Olivia's death. It is her purpose to prevent disaster like Emily served her purpose. What that is I don't know, maybe stopping DRJ with her pumped up cortexifan abilities. I read somewhere that Mr. X may be symbolic of cortexifan in her brain. Whatever it is, Peter isn't going to be happy.

    1. I thought there was a good deal of foreshadowing also. Having Mr. X as just a symbol makes sense. Although Olivia did refer to him as the man that is going to kill her. That doesn't make him real, maybe just real to her.

      What, Peter unhappy? Not again!

  4. Dave i dont think Olivia is going to die. She may be in danger ... but i think that Peter is in this timeline for a reason....and that reason is Olivia. (I have a whole theory about this but i wont bore you with it here. Its very long!)

Joel Wyman has said in interviews (and to me personally when i met him) ... that at the core of Fringe is an epic love story ... but a love story as epic as this has to be fought for. The course of true love never runs smoothly! So, to me, that means that Olivia cant die.

I believe that she is in peril. September must think so as well because once again he has interferred and tried to warn Olivia.

I think that the new big baddie that will be introduced into Fringe in later eps could be the X Man that Peter spoke to in LSD. He had a gun in his hand.... but it doesnt necessarily mean that he will shoot Olivia with it. It may be a metaphor for something else.

How do we know that the X Man is actually a man. After all....the image of this man was in Olivia's mind. It could be anyone or anything. This whole image appeared in a red Zepplin balloon. What if it is a metaphor for 'red hair' as in Nina and the gun could be a needle. Those things are in our current story line.

I have a whole theory on who shot September and why .... but im keeping that close to my chest. I just hope im right. It would be great to finally get something right! Thats one of the many great things about Fringe. You can have theories based on solid facts and still be way off the mark. Our writers are just simply awesome!

    1. I don't think she is going to "die" either. Did you see how the last Dr. Who played out with his death? Clever! lostweatherguy shares your feeling about Mr. X being a metaphor. The red hair and the balloon, that's a new one on me but I see the connection. Remember the red balloon in the subway station and other episodes? Are these people really that far ahead of us story telling wise? That would be amazing.

When are you going to share your theory? C'mon!

    2. Which theory Dave? The Who Shot September theory .... or the theory about Peter being in the correct timeline?

    3. The theory about who shot September. I think Peter is where he belongs also.

  5. Hmmm, I wonder if September interceded on Olivia's behalf and took a Mr. X shot meant for her.
